An Intimate Wedding at the Durham County Courthouse

There is something incredibly meaningful about a wedding centered simply on two people choosing one another.

I recently had the honor of photographing an intimate wedding at the Durham County Courthouse. Without an elaborate timeline or a large guest list, the day felt relaxed, personal, and full of emotion. It was a beautiful reminder that a wedding doesn’t have to be big to feel deeply significant.

The beauty of a Durham courthouse wedding

A courthouse ceremony allows couples to keep the focus on what matters most: getting married and being fully present with one another.

Some couples choose a courthouse wedding because they want something simple and private. Others celebrate with a few close family members or plan a larger gathering later. There is no single right way to create a meaningful wedding day.

The Durham County Courthouse also places couples in the heart of downtown Durham, with a variety of nearby settings for portraits before or after the ceremony. The combination of modern architecture, city streets, and pockets of greenery can give a courthouse wedding gallery a wonderful sense of place.

Courthouse weddings are still worth documenting

A smaller wedding is not a less important wedding. The exchange of vows, nervous anticipation, laughter, embraces, and first moments as a married couple all deserve to be remembered.

Courthouse wedding photography can be simple and flexible. Coverage might include:

  • Arriving at the courthouse

  • Time with close family and friends

  • The ceremony and exchange of vows

  • Candid moments immediately afterward

  • Newlywed portraits around downtown Durham

  • A celebratory meal or toast

Even one or two hours of photography can preserve the story of the day without making the experience feel complicated.

A relaxed approach to intimate wedding photography

My approach is warm, natural, and centered on genuine connection. I offer enough guidance to help you feel comfortable while leaving space for the day to unfold honestly.

Whether you are planning a Durham courthouse wedding, a small backyard ceremony, or an intimate elopement, your photographs should reflect how the day actually felt—not turn it into something it was never meant to be.
