Durham Newborn Photographer
Katrina Williams is a Durham-based newborn photographer specializing in gentle, in-home documentary sessions during the first weeks of your baby's life. No studio, no props, no posing — just your family, your home, and the quiet, tender magic of these first days. Voted Best of Durham 2023–2026.
These days go faster than anyone warns you.
You already know this. You can feel it — the way you keep stopping in the middle of ordinary moments just to look. Just to memorize. The weight of them on your chest. The sound of their breathing. The way your older kids tiptoe in to peek.
This is the season you will reach for first when you try to remember.
And it moves so fast.
A newborn session with Fifty Two Hundred isn't about a perfect setup or a sleeping baby in a basket. It's about your family — all of you — in the home where this new chapter is beginning. The siblings climbing into bed. Your partner's face when they hold them. The morning light coming through the window of the room where everything changed.
We're here to make sure you don't forget how this felt.
What a Durham newborn session looks like
We come to you. Every newborn session takes place in your home, during those tender first weeks when everything is new and soft and a little overwhelming. There's no rushing to a studio, no packing up a diaper bag, no performing for the camera. You just live — and we capture it.
We photograph your baby, yes. But we also photograph your family becoming. The big siblings meeting their person for the first time. The way you look at each other across the room. The tiny details you're terrified of forgetting — the curl of their fist, the way they fit in your arms, the mess and beauty of a house that just welcomed someone new.
Our style is documentary and unhurried. We follow your family's lead, work with your natural light, and create images that feel like your real life — because they are.
Add a Newborn Film
If you want to remember not just how they looked, but how they sounded — the little sounds, the way they moved, the feeling in the room — consider adding a cinematic newborn film to your session. A short, beautifully edited film set to music that captures the emotion of these first days in a way still photos simply can't.
Most families tell us the film becomes the thing they return to most.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The newborn window — typically days 5 through 14 — is when babies sleep the most and are at their most curled and tender. We recommend reaching out during your second trimester so we can hold a tentative date for you. We confirm timing once your baby arrives and adjust around their schedule, not ours.
-
The whole family. Always. A newborn session with us is about your family becoming — that means siblings, partners, grandparents if you'd like them there. Some of our most treasured images are the ones of big brothers and sisters meeting their person for the very first time.
-
No. We may suggest moving a few things from a surface or opening the blinds for better light, but we are not here to photograph your house. We're here to photograph your family in it. The lived-in, loved-in reality of your home is exactly the right backdrop.
-
Yes. We follow your baby's lead. We've photographed fussy babies, wide-awake babies, babies who only slept for twenty minutes — and every session has produced images that families treasure. You don't need a perfectly sleepy baby. You just need to show up.

We hear this often, and we want you to know: you belong in these photographs. Your children will want to see you in them someday — not a version of you that performed for the camera, but the real you, in the thick of one of the most meaningful seasons of your life. We know how to create a space where you feel comfortable, and we'll reflect back the beauty that's already there.
-
Yes. We can add a cinematic newborn film to your session — a short, beautifully edited film that captures the sounds, movement, and feeling of those first days. Most families who add a film tell us it becomes the thing they return to most. Ask us about film add-ons when you reach out.
