Pick the Right Time

The best family photos happen when everyone's in a good mood—and that starts with timing.

For outdoor sessions in Durham and Raleigh, schedule during the hour before sunset. The light is soft and flattering, and temperatures are cooler.

Work with your family's rhythm, not against it. If your toddler naps at 2 p.m., don't schedule at 1:30 p.m. And if you have flexibility, weekday sessions at popular spots like Duke Gardens or JC Raulston Arboretum tend to be less crowded.

What to Wear (Without Stressing About It)

Wear what feels like you. I'm not interested in creating a catalog shoot—I want to capture your family as you really are.

A few guidelines that photograph beautifully:
