She Showed Up to Dance — And That Said Everything | Dance Her Popup, Transfer Co, Raleigh

There's something that happens when a woman stops performing and starts moving.

You can see it the moment it kicks in — the laugh that comes out a little louder, the shoulders that drop, the arms that stop worrying about where they are. She's not thinking anymore. She's just here.

That's exactly what went down at the Dance Her popup at Transfer Co Food Hall in downtown Raleigh, and honestly? It was one of the most alive rooms I've been in.

What Is Dance Her?

Dance Her is exactly what it sounds like — a popup dance experience designed for women to get together, let loose, and just feel something. No choreography to memorize. No one watching to judge. Just music, movement, and a room full of women who showed up because somewhere deep down, they needed this.

The event was held at Transfer Co Food Hall (located at 500 E Davie St, Raleigh, NC 27601) — one of Raleigh's most vibrant community spaces, tucked right in the heart of the city. It was the perfect backdrop: big, warm, full of energy, the kind of place that already knows how to hold a good time.

What I Witnessed That Night

I'll be honest — I wasn't sure what to expect walking in. But within about ten minutes, I understood the assignment.

Women were dancing with their friends. Dancing alone. Dancing in groups of strangers who were quickly becoming something more. There were big grins and closed eyes and hands in the air. There were moments of pure, unfiltered joy that you can't manufacture or pose — you can only catch them if you're paying attention.

That's my job. And nights like this one make me remember why I love it.

As a Raleigh event photographer, I spend a lot of time in rooms where people are performing — smiling for the camera, holding still, trying to look a certain way. Dance Her was the opposite of that. Nobody was performing. They were just living — loudly, freely, and beautifully.

Why Events Like This Matter

We are so starved for this. The chance to be in a room full of women, moving our bodies, feeling good, and not needing a single reason for it beyond because we can.

No one was celebrating a birthday. No one was at a bachelorette party. They were just there — for themselves, for each other, for the sheer joy of taking up space and making noise and feeling alive.

These are the moments that don't usually get documented. And that's exactly why they should be.

A Note on Event Photography in Raleigh

If you're hosting an event in Raleigh — a popup, a workshop, a gathering, a celebration — and you want someone to document it the way it actually felt (not just the way it looked), I'd love to talk.

I'm Katrina, and I run Fifty Two Hundred Photo + Film out of Durham, NC. I document real moments for real people — the kind of photos you look at ten years from now and feel something.

The Triangle has such a rich, creative community, and I love being the one in the room who gets to hold onto it.

Whether it's a dance popup in downtown Raleigh or a candlelit dinner in Chapel Hill, event photography in Raleigh and the surrounding area is something I genuinely love. If you have something worth celebrating, let's make sure it doesn't disappear.
